LAVENDER BALM
(How to make it and use it)
Lavandula commonly known
as lavender is a small evergreen shrub with grey-green hoary linear leaves and
with purple flowers. It is native to the Old World and is found from Cape Verde
and the Canary Islands, Europe across to northern and eastern Africa, the
Mediterranean, southwest Asia to southeast India.
Lavender is widely used because of its great
healing properties. Most commonly is used to reduce anxiety and stress, to
treat sleep issues, to prevent hair loss (you can use lavender tea as a
shampoo). It is also found in many skin products because lavender has anti- inflammatory
and anti-septic qualities.
This lavender balm can
be used to treat wounds, scratches, burns because it reduces inflammation and
prevents infection. You can also use it as lip balm, to soothe sore muscle, as antiperspirant.
Here is the recipe:
Ingredients:
½ cup lavender
2 spoons of bees wax
½ cup of oil (of your choosing)
(If you cannot find lavender
you can put 20 drops of lavender oil)
Preparation:
You put the oil on low
heat, and you put the lavender in it. When the oil heats turn off the heat and
leave it for 20 minutes. After the 20 minutes pass drain the oil with a piece
of cloth. In another pot put water on medium heat, then put the oil in another
container over the boiling water, after the oil is heated put the beeswax in it.
Stir until the bees wax is melted. Put the mixture in little jars, or container
of your choosing and let it cool. Don’t
close the container until the balm is
cooled completely.
It lasts 6 months to a
year.
Caution: Lavender is a member of the mint family, if
you have mint allergies is not recommended for use.
