YOGA AND DEPRESSION
Over 350 million people suffer from depression, which
is almost 5 percent of the population. Unfortunately many people believe that
the emotional problems caused by depression are easily curable and not real.
This way of thinking can be harmful to the person suffering from depression.
Depression can be seen as spiritual unbalance, loss of
purpose and joy in life. The practice of yoga in cases of mild depression can
be very beneficial, while in more serious cases can be additional therapeutic
method.
Asanas and breathing techniques can be a great
addition to treatment of depression. Asanas put pressure on internal organs and
glands which helps with the chemical balance of the organism, circulation and
they feed the body and the brain with oxygen.
The breathing techniques balance the nervous system,
they refresh and strengthen the organism and balance the mind.
