HOW TO USE PROPERLY CHARCOAL PEEL OF MASK
(And the little mistakes we make when using it)
Before we start with the tips for use for this mask I must mention one thing. Charcoal mask aren`t made from regular charcoal, the ingredient it`s called activated charcoal. So if you want to use a homemade charcoal mask you will need activated charcoal.
Here is a link for more info about what activated charcoal is if you need it: THE MANY USES OF ACTIVATED CHARCOAL (Health info and tips)
Charcoal mask are gaining popularity these several years as a very effective skin product for blackheads removal. Because I have this problem (and very oily skin), I started testing (for a year almost) this masks.
The strange thing was some of them didn`t work at all, and some of them worked with very little results. I tried different companies, different methods and still didn`t work for me. I`m not saying this products doesn`t work at all, and it`s all a lie, the same products that I used worked for some of my friends but not for me.
So I started doing more research on why this masks don`t work for me, and I realized I didn’t followed only one step properly. I didn`t exfoliate my skin before applying it, I only washed my face.
This may seem like a little unimportant thing but (if you have very oily skin) actually, I`ve learned that the properties of charcoal are to strip of the first layer of skin (dead skin cells, oils etc.) and you need to clear this layer (with a face scrub) so activated charcoal can easily bind with your pores and the dirt in it. Also exfoliating opens up the pores.
Here is how to use this masks properly:
1. Always do a skin test before using it.
2. Don`t apply it on any area that has hair (eyebrows), or near your eyes and lips.
3. Cleanse and exfoliate your face before use.
4. If you use homemade mask don`t use glue (it`s effective and very popular method, but damages the skin).
5. If you want to buy one, prefer the ones that have skin soothing ingredient (like Aloe Vera).
6. Spread your mask on your face.
7. Leave for 10-15 minutes if the mask is homemade, or follow the instruction if it is store- bought.
8. Peel of the mask, start from the bottom (your chin) towards the top of your face (your forehead).
9. Wash you face and always moisturize (if you have oily skin use skin moisturizers that don`t have any oils in it).
Activated charcoal has a strong effect on the skin and the overuse of this mask can actually damage your skin. The recommended use for this mask is two times a month (every two weeks).
