HERBAL TEAS THAT HELP WITH STRESS RELIEF

We live in a stress filled world. Short- term stress can be helpful for the body in the sense that it prepares us for danger and motivate us to perform better. There isn`t a person on this planet that wasn`t affected by stressful  situations and unfortunately it is not always the short- term type. In the long- term situations stress can cause various physical and mental problems. 
Here are some health problems that can be caused by long term- stress:

  • Depression and anxiety
  • Pain of any kind
  • Sleep problems
  • Digestive problems
  • Skin conditions, such as eczema
  • Heart disease
  • Weight problems
  • Reproductive issues
  • Thinking and memory problems


Studies has shown that some plants can reduce stress levels, improve concentration, promote sleep, boost mood, increase productivity. 

Here are some plants that can help with stress:


1. Hops or common hop 



This plant is a natural sedative and it has wide use in treating stress related illnesses. Hops contains high percent of hormones similar to estrogen and it is usually used to heal anxiety and mood disorders, menopause, tenseness, PMS, insomnia, nerve pain etc.

Caution: People with condition sensitive to hormones and severe depression should avoid this plant. 

2.Ginkgo biloba or maidenhair tree

Ginkgo improves the blood flow in the brain and increases the serotonin level in the brain and is commonly used as a treatment for mild depression. This plant improves the oxygen use in the brain and therefore improves memory, concentration, mental abilities and helps with headaches.

3. Rhodiola root or arctic root

This tea is used to increase energy, endurance, strength and mental capacity. It improves the serotonin levels and can influence mental performance and emotional health (mood swings, depression, anxiety, insomnia, sexual energy). 
Rhodiola root is a commonly known as a powerful "adaptogen". If you work in a high stress environment this is the best tea for you, because it has the ability to adapt it`s properties and bring balance to the body.

4. Catnip 



Catnip is not just beneficial for the cats. The use of catnip can also be applied to humans in a controlled manner. 
Catnip provides stress relief, reduces anxiety and promotes sleep. One cup of catnip tea a day is very useful for you health.

5. Moringa

Moringa supports brain health and cognitive function. It contains high levels of vitamin E and C and fights neuron degeneration. Normalizes the serotonin and dopamine levels in the brain which improves mood, memory and fights stress.

6. Thyme

Thyme is an antioxidant and prevents oxidative stress in your organs.  It contains vitamin B6 and with regular use can help boost your mood and ease your mind.
The healing properties of thyme easily evaporate. In preparation of this tea it is important to make it and keep it in a closed container. 

Caution: Thyme is not recommended for use if you have sensitive stomach.

7. Valerian

Perhaps the most popular plant for stress relief. Valerian is a natural sedative and it is used to prevent insomnia, anxiety, irritability, stress, depression, ADHD, headache, muscle and joint pain.

Caution: Not recommended for children, pregnant women, if you breastfeed and before surgery. 

8. Lavender

Used for depression, anxiety, migraine, insomnia, restlessness and reducing pain. You can use lavender as tea, spice and to make an relaxing bath.  

Caution: Not recommended for use few weeks before surgery.
